Catalyst is supplied free with most resin packs. Liquid MEKP. All resins must have catalyst to start the hardening process, added at 1% - 3% by weight. Ideal addition is 2% or (20ml per kg of resin). Catalyst is a corrosive material and must be handled with special care. Never allow catalyst to come into contact with accelerator as this can cause a fire or explosion. See section on hazards. Dispensers are strongly recommended for safe and accurate use. | This is used to eliminate the surface tackiness caused by gelcoats and some resins when used as a final coating as in sheathing. Flowcoats which have the wax already added can be purchased but these must never be used as an initial gelcoat as in moulding. Resins or gelcoats applied with wax solution added will always need to be abraded if further coats are necessary. | This is used to thin resin which may be used as a primer to improve adhesion as in timber sheathing. Resin already contains approx. 35% styrene. For thinning do not use more than 10% addition as this will degrade the resin. When adding catalyst to resin for primer use 3% addition. |
